Social Events
BBQ
We will have an American style barbeque ("Burgers and Brats") on the evening of Saturday, August 12, at the Kuhn barn in the Fermilab village. Buses will take participants to the Village and drop them at their hotel after the BBQ (~9pm).
Chicago Outing
On Sunday, August 13, we have arranged a full-day outing to downtown Chicago.
Buses will be available to take participants from the school hotel and from the Users Center parking lot in the Fermilab Village to Chicago, with drop-off at Millenium Park.
From there, you can head north to Navy Pier, The Water Tower, and shopping on Michigan Avenue,
or south to The Art Institute of Chicago, The Field Museum, and The Shedd Aquarium.
A City of Chicago free trolley service
and other pay-per-ride public transportation
is available connecting most major tourist sites. Trolleys typically run every 20 minutes.

On Sundays, the free trolley system operates from 10am-6pm (except Navy Pier routes, which run until 11pm). In addition to the free trolley service, city buses and taxi services are available.
Return buses to the hotel and The Village will pick-up at ~8p.m. at the same drop-off point at Millenium Park. Please see the school registration materials for further details.
Those who wish to stay in the city later can return via train (see transportation below).
Companion Tickets
Companion tickets will be available for the two barbeque dinners at the Village Barn and the Chez Leon Buffet farewell dinner. Prices are as follows: "Burgers and Brats" BBQ - $25, "Steak Fry" BBQ - $25, Chez Leon Buffet - $50. Please contact the school secretariat for more information.
LPC Reception and Steak-fry
After the afternoon classes on Tuesday Aug 15, the LHC Physics Center (LPC) will host a reception on the 11th floor crossover of the Wilson Hall High Rise. The reception will include informal tours of the CMS Remote Operations Center (ROC). After the reception, there will be a Steak-Fry dinner held at the Kuhn barn in the Fermilab village. Buses will take participants to the Village and drop them at their hotel after the dinner (~9pm).
Farewell Dinner
On the evening before the last day of classes (Thurs. Aug 17), a buffet will be held at Chez Leon
for students and school faculty.

Chicago Tourism
Fermilab is located just 35 miles west of the Loop in the city of Chicago. You can get to the center of
Chicago by train. The nearest Metra train stations are located at
West Chicago, Winfield, Geneva,
and Route 59, and are just a short drive away.
The West Chicago and Geneva stations are the closest to the Comfort Inn in Geneva.
Taxi service for transportation to/from train stations is also available.

There are several special museum exhibits that will be open during Aug 9-18.
In addition to several other
temporary exhibits, The Field Museum will have a special exhibit on
King Tut. It is suggested that tickets be purchased in advance for this exhibit.
The Art Institute of Chicago
will have a
Harry Callahan
photography exhibit.
To insure entrance to some of these shows, it is suggested that you preorder tickets.

Users Center & Village Sports Activities
The Users Center is located at 2 Che Che Pinqua in the Village.
It is a recreational facility containing a large-screen TV room,
a music room with a grand piano, a game room with ping-pong tables and pool tables,
and a lounge with a full bar. The Users Center is open Monday through Friday
from 5:00 p.m. to midnight.
Recreational activities such as swimming, tennis, soccer, basketball, volleyball, and softball,
can be played in the area nearby.

On-site Transportation
Fermilab operates a free taxi service on site between the hours of 8:00 a.m.
and 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. There is no weekend service.
To call the taxi, dial 4225 (HACK) on any Laboratory phone.
The taxi picks up passengers on the east side of the Ground Floor of Wilson Hall.
Please remember that the taxi stops at other locations to pick up and drop off passengers,
so allow additional time when using this service. Also, please check the site access
map to make sure
that the area you are visiting does not have restricted access.

Other Events at Fermilab
There are some other events at Fermilab that might be of interest. The Fermilab Film Series is showing Aparajito (The Unvanquished) in the Auditorium on Friday, August 18th, and the Fermilab Arts Series is presenting the Funkadesi concert in the Auditorium on Saturday, August 19th. On the evening of Friday August, 18th, the CDF band, DSD, will play at the Users' Center.
