Social Program:

  • Social Events

    BBQ and Steak Fry
We will have an American style barbeque ("Burgers and Brats") on the evening of Saturday, August 16, and a Steak fry on the evening of Monday August 18th. Both events will be at the Kuhn barn in the Fermilab village. Buses will take participants to the Village and drop them at their hotel after each event.

    Chicago Outing
On Sunday, August 17, we have arranged a full-day outing to downtown Chicago. Buses will be available to take participants from the school hotel and from the Users Center parking lot in the Fermilab Village to Chicago, with drop-off at Millenium Park. From there, you can head north to Navy Pier, The Water Tower, and shopping on Michigan Avenue, or south to The Art Institute of Chicago, The Field Museum, and The Shedd Aquarium. A City of Chicago free trolley service and other pay-per-ride public transportation is available connecting most major tourist sites. Trolleys typically run every 20 minutes. Please see the trolley map. For more information on the transportation in this area managed by the Illinois-Grand Corridor Transportation Management Association (TMA), please visit www.cityofchicago.org or www.tylin.com for schedules and routes. On Sundays, the free trolley system operates from 10am-11pm. In addition to the free trolley service, city buses and taxi services are available. Return buses to the hotel and The Village will pick-up at ~TBD pm at the same drop-off point at Millenium Park. Please see the school registration materials for further details. Those who wish to stay in the city later can return via train (see transportation below).

    LPC Reception
After the evening discussion on Tuesday Aug 12, the LHC Physics Center (LPC) will host a reception in the Atrium of Wilson Hall High Rise. The reception will include informal tours of the LHC@FNAL Remote Operations Center.

Farewell Dinner at the University of Chicago campus
On the afternoon before the last day of classes (Thurs. Aug 21), students will be transported to Chicago by bus and be given the opportunity to visit the Adler Planetarium, followed by a lecture at the University of Chicago, and ending up with the final banquet in the evening. Students will then be transported back to the hotel.
