Fifth CERN-Fermilab Hadron Collider Physics Summer School

At the present time, experiments at Hadron Colliders provide our best vision into physics at the TeV scale. The Fermilab Tevatron is currently exploring the electroweak scale, and has collected several inverse femtobarns of data. At the same time, the LHC will soon restart operations and a new era in the exploration of the smallest scales will commence.

To realize the full potential of these developments, CERN and Fermilab are jointly offering a series of "Hadron Collider Physics Summer Schools", to prepare young researchers for these exciting times. The first school took place at Fermilab in 2006, followed by the second school at CERN in 2007. The fifth school will take place August 16-27, 2010 at Fermilab, and will build on the successes of the previous schools.

The target audience is young postdocs and advanced graduate students, with a strong interest in hadron collider physics. Both theorists and experimentalists are encouraged to apply. Lectures will be pedagogical reviews of both the theoretical and experimental underpinnings of hadron collider physics, as well as a number of special topics drawn from other exciting results at the forefront of research. There will also be informal discussions, and social activities in the nearby city of Chicago.

Calendar and Details

The fifth summer school will take place at Fermilab during August 16-27, 2010. There will be about nine days of lectures, and free time to visit some of the facilities at Fermilab, and for activities in Chicago. Updated information and online applications will be found at the school web site: /hcpss10. Applications will be accepted starting February 22, 2010 and applications and references are required to be received by March 29, 2010 for full consideration. The participants will be housed at the nearby Pheasant Run Resort. Some funding may be available to help support a limited number of participants.
